BERKELEY — A man screaming and masturbating inside Berkeley Public Library was asked to leave, but he refused. Instead he was arrested, after becoming increasingly agitated and aggressive, and threatening library staff and patrons.

On a busy morning in September, the man sat down at a computer to watch pornography and masturbate. He stayed briefly before leaving, only to return for a second time.

Again, the same man began watching pornography and masturbating, but this time a librarian told him to leave. That’s when he allegedly hit the librarian in the face several times.

As the librarian walked away to phone Berkeley PD, the man continued masturbating and started approaching surprised patrons. Among the patrons witnessing his inappropriate behavior were young children.

The man fled from the main downtown library, before responding officers rushed inside. However, he returned for another library visit about three hours later. This time the man was arrested, Jallah I. Korvah, a 27-year-old transient from Los Angeles.

Korvah now faces charges for battery, indecent exposure, lewd conduct, and making terrorist threats. He has numerous prior arrests in the Los Angeles area for illicit drug possession, assaults, battery and trespassing.

Presently, Korvah remains in custody in Santa Rita Jail ineligible for release, due to having his prior parole status revoked. His next scheduled court date is October 18.
