The homicide occurred over five years ago, and ow the shooter has received his prison sentence, according to the Salinas Police Department official Facebook page-

“On 01/10/15, Officers responded to reports of a victim of a shooting at 108 N. Main St. When they arrived, they located Dexter Barnett (42) in front of Happy to be Nappy suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. CPR was performed on the unresponsive victim, but he was declared deceased at the scene.

The investigation revealed that earlier in the day, victim Barnett had an argument with Angel Ramirez in the area of N. Main and Rossi St. and then they each went on their way. It appears Ramirez returned later with several friends and located Barnett.

They again began to argue, subsequently victim Barnett walked away towards the area of N. Main St at Lake St. when Ramirez approached Barnett once again and shot at victim Barnett several times, mortally wounding him.

Through a very long, complex and convoluted investigation, detectives were able to determine Ramirez was the shooter. He was arrested. At the conclusion of a two-and-a-half-week jury trial, on 12/6/19, Ramirez was found guilty of first-degree murder, gang enhancements and associated charges.

On 2-7-2020, Angel Ramirez was sentenced to 54 years to life in prison.”
