A known gang member in the Watsonville area has been arrested after leading police on a foot pursuit during a traffic stop on New Year’s Day.

Officers pulled over a vehicle in which 32-year-old Geovanni Lopez was a passenger on the 100 block of Elm Street, at which point he bolted from the car.

Another officer quickly caught up with him and arrested him.

Lopez, who already had two outstanding warrants, had discarded a loaded gun as he was running, which was later recovered and booked into evidence.

The driver of the vehicle, Enrique Ramos, was also arrested for violating his parole terms.
