A Stanislaus County man has been busted for DUI and alleged drug sales after reportedly making an illegal U-turn to avoid a DUI checkpoint late last month.

On Friday, December 20, after the U-turn incident, 37-year-old Charles Benavides was pulled over and had his car searched, at which point deputies also located around two ounces of methamphetamine and a small digital scale.

Benavides was booked but later released on the stipulation that he is subject to search terms until his case is adjudicated.

On Friday, December 31, Lodi police detectives and AB 109 Taskforce members searched his Stockton home on the 5100 block of North Higway 99 and found two handguns, one of which was reported stolen, over five ounces of crack cocaine, one ounce of psychedelic mushrooms, and two more grams of methamphetamine, as well as various other paraphernalia.

Benavides was again taken into custody, this time on suspicion of multiple drug sales and weapons offenses.
