Thanks to the report of a concerned caller, a convicted felon in possession of a handgun was arrested in Fountain Valley.

At around noon on Friday, November 22, 2019, an unknown person called to report that there were people were passed out in a car parked on Stonecress and Mt. Cook. Officers located the car and woke up the occupants, identified as 28-year-old Diana Dotson of Anaheim and 35-year-old Richard Salazar of Huntington Beach.

Officers ran checks on both individuals and found that Dotson was on probation, while Salazar was a convicted felon. Both were asked to exit the vehicle, and officers subsequently searched it, based on Dotson’s probation status. Items found during the search included drugs, a 9mm handgun, and mail that was possibly stolen.

“Salazar admitted the handgun belonged to him. He was arrested for being a felon in possession of a handgun and ammo along with drug charges,” according to the written statement.

Dotson was cited for possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia. She was released at the scene.

The Fountain Valley Police Department is thanking citizens for their careful attention to their neighborhoods. “Working together, we got a gun out of the hands of a convicted felon.”
