Ex-husband jailed in murder-for-hire plot

Santa Ana – A 33-year-old man in a child custody battle with his ex-wife tried to pay an undercover officer $30,000 to have her killed, according to Orange County Sheriff’s investigators.

The suspect, William George Wallace, had hired a private investigator to dig up dirt on his ex, with whom he shares a 4-year-old daughter, according to reports. When the investigator said it would be cheaper to murder her, Wallace allegedly asked if he knew of anyone who could do the job. The investigator called authorities, who set up a sting operation to nab Wallace.

On Saturday, an undercover officer met with Wallace to discuss the murder-for-hire plot. Wallace reportedly brought a picture of the woman, and asked for the slaying to occur after Dec. 23, when he would be traveling abroad in England.

Wallace was arrested with a plane ticket and $4,000 in cash, according to investigators.

He faces attempted murder and solicitation to commit murder charges.
