Brea Police have positively identified a female suspect who allegedly scammed victims into donating on behalf of a sick child.

The Brea Police Department requested assistance from the public in identifying the suspect via their Facebook page. According to the post, the woman went door-to-door in a neighborhood in the area of East Candlewood in Brea on Monday, March 2nd, telling residents she was raising money to assist a family friend whose son had been diagnosed with cancer. She showed residents the details of a legitimate GoFundMe account but requested cash donations on behalf of the family.

“This is a scam. The family whose son has cancer does not know this woman,” according to the post.

Thankfully, the suspect was identified by police at about 3:30 PM that day. Her identity has not been released publicly.
