Homeless Man Arrested for Raping an Elderly Woman

SEBASTOPOL — A homeless man found loitering outside an elderly woman’s home was arrested on suspicion of raping her. The 26-year-old man aroused the suspicion of someone who noticed him loitering and phoned the police.

The person who reported seeing the man engaged him in conversation and convinced him to stay in the area. Consequently, he remained in the vicinity long enough for responding officers to arrive on the scene.

Authorities believe the suspect had previous contact with the victim before the rape occurred, when he returned to her home again on September 13th. His alleged victim, a 75-year-old woman reported being sexually assaulted on September 5th.

While being detained for questioning, the suspect purportedly admitted to raping the victim. Detectives investigating the incident gathered evidence indicating that the woman had sexual intercourse without giving her consent.

The victim had difficulties remembering many details concerning the alleged assault and the attacker. Considering her mental state, investigators determined the she would not have been capable of giving her consent.

Therefore, Sebastopol PD arrested the suspect identified as Tirso D. Guzmanvivar. He was booked into Sonoma County Jail, although he is no longer in custody.

Guzmanvivar is familiar to authorities for being a chronic offender. He has numerous arrests on his record dating back to 2014.

By comparison, his prior arrests were for less serious offenses. Guzmanvivar was first arrested for vandalism in 2014. Additional arrests followed for public intoxication and drug possession.

Other incidents resulted in him being arrested again for vandalism, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and battery.
