Weaverville woman arrested after alleged sword attack

WEAVERVILLE — A local woman was arrested on multiple charges after an alleged sword attack on the afternoon of August 4th.

Just after 4:30 PM, deputies were called to the Weaver Street area on reports of a woman having been assaulted with a sword.

Multiple units were dispatched to the area and soon detained 52-year-old Rae Haines, who admitted to striking the victim several times with a sword.

The victim was taken by ambulance to a local hospital to undergo treatment for multiple lacerations and was later released.

Haines, meanwhile, reportedly went on to claim she was the one who’d manufactured several incendiary devices that had been seized weeks earlier as part of another investigation.

She has since been booked into the Trinity County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats, and manufacturing an incendiary device.
