MERCED — A Merced County Deputy and his K9 partner were called to assist in tracking a wanted felon with multiple warrants to his name.

Police say that on August 4th, the suspect — identified as 38-year-old Simon Velasco — had fled when served with a warrant, taking off on foot from the area of Parsons Avenue and Country Drive.

K9 Officer Edo was quick to pick up his scent, which soon led to Velasco’s arrest.

According to police, Velasco had been wanted on charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm and assault with a firearm.
