SAN JOSE – The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department has brought a repeat burglary and theft suspect’s escapade to an end.. According to Sergeant Reginald Cooks of the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office, “On 7-10-2019 at approximately 11:52 pm, deputies located an occupied stolen vehicle in the area of Senter Road and Tully Road in San Jose.”
During a brief investigation into the stolen vehicle, a pursuit began. The subject being pursued by the dispatched officer began to accelerate at extreme speeds in order to try and evade the pursuing deputy. The suspect began to run through red lights. The suspect, seeing an opportunity, stopped near De Rose Way and Southwest Expressway and fled from the vehicle and began to run on foot.
A K9 unit was called in and the suspect was tracked through a residential neighborhood that led officers along back fences and eventually to his whereabouts.
18-year-old Anthony Zavala was booked into the Main Jail on several charges including felony evading, stolen vehicle, resisting/delaying arrest and possession of the stolen property. Zavala had been placed on probation for previous crimes that included burglary, auto theft, petty theft, possession, and sales of a controlled substance.
Deputies also located a 14-year old female suspect was cited for fleeing the scene and released to her custodial guardian.
Deputies had set up a perimeter in search of a third suspect that was also with Zavala but the search was unsuccessful. The suspect is being described as a Hispanic male with an Afro hairstyle, thin build, wearing dark clothing.
Cooks said, “A bystander was injured during the incident and transported to a local area hospital for treatment for non-life threatening injuries.”
A search of the vehicle revealed an airsoft pistol, a shaved key and a large number of stolen driver’s licenses, passports, identification cards and credit cards located in the suspect’s vehicle.
