SUSANVILLE – The Susanville Police Department conducted an undercover decoy sting operation on June 9 to help prevent the sales of tobacco and nicotine products to customers under 21 years of age.

The SPD seeks 100% compliance from retailers in this endeavor.

In the operation, a minor decoy was used to attempt to purchase tobacco products at various businesses. The decoy provides their true age and ID if they are asked by the retailer.

SPD officers monitor the entire process. In this latest operation, the decoy entered five businesses, and all five “successfully rejected the minor decoy’s request by either asking their age or viewing their identification.”

The businesses were Smokin Bean, Dollar General, Walmart, Safeway Supermarket and Mobil Gas/Mini Mart.

Keep up the good work SPD, and all local businesses.
