WALNUT CREEK — A man with plans to kidnap and rape women was arrested. Authorities apprehended the suspect at his home, one day after a woman escaped from him.

The victim was walking to her car on March 26, when she was attacked by a man who tried to subdue her with a stun gun. This violent assault happened on the 2000 block of Camel Lane at approximately 7:20 a.m.

Fortunately, the victim was able to fight off her attacker and escape. Although the attacker fled, he was quickly identified and arrested the following morning.

The suspect is Newark resident 38-year-old Matt O. Caruso. He was taken into custody by Walnut Creek police, with assistance from Newark and Fremont police.

Caruso was arrested at his home on March 27 and booked into a Contra Costa County jail. Bail for his release was set at $1.1 million.

Fremont police recovered evidence related to the woman’s attack discarded by the suspect. This key evidence was located because someone reported seeing suspicious items being discarded. This, enabled authorities to thwart any plans for more attacks on women.

While Caruso was being arrested, Walnut Creek and Newark police searched his home. Inside they located and seized multiple firearms and child pornography.

Presently, Caruso faces three felony charges of kidnapping, assault with intent to rape, and possession of child pornography.
