REDDING – As an officer conducted his regular patrol checks early on the morning of February 3rd, he heard noises in the Sonrays Machinery yard. This was near Ellis and Polk Streets.

The officer then saw someone in the cab of a running pickup truck in the yard.

When the suspect saw the officer, who by this time had called in backup, he climbed up on the roof of another business nearby and refused to come down.

Officers deployed the UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) and concluded that the suspect was now in another yard.

Enter K-9 Njord. Soon the suspect, later identified as 48-year-old Ryan Barrett,  was found hiding in another vehicle, and was placed under arrest. Further investigation revealed that Barrett had illegally entered three different business yards.

He was charged with prowling, attempted vehicle theft, vandalism and resisting arrest
