ESCONDIDO- Two Escondido police officers were injured, and a suspect was shot in the foot following a February 7th pursuit in Escondido.

According to a San Diego County Sheriff’s Department report, police responded to a disturbance call at 1:30 a.m. on Feb. 7 at the 1400 block of Rincon Villa Dr. in Escondido. Police said a male suspect in his 30’s fired shots while at the scene and that the suspect was seen leaving the scene in a vehicle, refusing to stop for police.

The suspect led officers on a pursuit that ended at the Deer Springs Road off ramp on I-15 when police deployed a tire deflation device that disabled the suspect’s vehicle.

The suspect stopped his vehicle at Mesa Rock Road just north of Deer Springs Road and fled on foot. When police pursued the suspect, he fired gunshots at pursuing police. One Escondido police officer returned fire and hit the suspect in the foot. Police took the suspect into custody and he was transported to a local hospital.

Two police officers were injured during the pursuit and treated at a local hospital and released. The facts surrounding the incident are currently under investigation and a gun was located at the scene of the pursuit. Police did not state what charges the suspect is facing.
