Bystanders Helped Subdue Domestic Violence Suspect

RED BLUFF – Bystanders helped police subdue a domestic violence suspect on August 30 around 5:00 p.m.  A RBPD officer responded to a “civil standby” call in the 1100 block of Pine Street.

As the officer spoke to a female victim, 40-year-old Darren Edward Ramsey came speeding by in his vehicle. Ramsey sliced a power pole in half and then struck the officer and the female, Ramsey’s wife, with his vehicle.

Then Ramsey attacked the officer in an attempt to take his gun. he successfully took a magazine from the officer’s belt.

This is when bystanders came in to help restrain the suspect. Other officers arrived and took Ramsey into custody.

His charges are –

  • attempted murder of a police officer;
  • attempted murder;
  • resisting an officer;
  • domestic violence; assault with a deadly weapon.

Finally, the officer and suspect both went to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

“The members of the RBPD sincerely appreciate the bystanders in their efforts to assist and protect our officer.”
