On January 8, 2025, at approximately 4:39 p.m., the Red Bluff Police Department responded to a report of a train collision involving a vehicle near Main Street and Walton Avenue. Union Pacific Railroad dispatch reported the incident, which involved a northbound train striking a Ford F-150 truck attempting to cross the tracks.
The train conductor sounded the horn repeatedly, but the truck remained on the tracks, resulting in a collision. Upon arrival, officers located the heavily damaged, unoccupied vehicle near the scene. The driver, later identified as 51-year-old Brandon Funk of Red Bluff, had fled the area on foot.
Red Bluff Police officers, including Corporal Lampron and his K-9 partner Max, began searching the vicinity. K-9 Max located Funk approximately 300 yards from the collision site. Funk was detained without incident.
After an on-scene evaluation, officers determined Funk was driving under the influence. He was medically cleared at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and subsequently booked into the Tehama County Jail. No passengers were present in the truck at the time of the incident.
