FRESNO – A Fresno County Jail inmate attacked and injured four correctional officers on September 4.

35-year old Emillio Mancia has been incarcerated at the Fresno County Jail since his last arrest in 2016.

His attire is a yellow jumpsuit, not because it brings out the color of his eyes but because it signifies staff must take extra precaution when interacting with him as he is a documented danger to staff.

Per protocol for “yellow suitors,” Mancia had two correctional officers assigned to him. They were trying to move him out of a video visitation room when his attack began.

Using a small, jail-issued shaving razor, Mancia cut the faces of the two male officers. Two more male correctional officers rushed to the scene to take down Mancia. In the process, one officer hurt his knee and the other his hand.

Mancia has a history of violence. He has already served two sentences in a state prison. Officers arrested Mancia at least 19 times for various crimes. These crimes included assault with a deadly weapon, grand theft, robbery, burglary and in 2016, murder.

He has been in jail without bail since 2016 for a murder charge. Allegations are that he fatally stabbed bicyclist Martin Holt in May of 2016.

Finally, Mancia is facing a life sentence if convicted for the murder of Martin Holt. He will now have to answer for the assault on the correctional officers and for violating laws which prohibit inmates to manufacture or possess weapons in a penitentiary facility.

As for the correctional officers, all four went home after treatment for their injuries and are reportedly in good spirits.
