MOUNTAIN VIEW– The MVPD announced the arrest of a female suspect who filed multiple claims against various men, alleging assault. Turns out it was just a ruse for numerous thefts.

Here was Kim’s modus operandi – first, she would file a false abuse charge against a male victim. Then 44-year-old Sunmee Kim would empty the male suspect’s home of their personal belongings and flee.

The MVPD believes there may be other victims. In fact, it is possible that Kim perhaps worked her ruse throughout the state.

Authorities located and arrested Kim in Palo Alto on June 7. The arrest  followed an ongoing investigation based on reports filed by numerous men throughout California.

This includes false claims of domestic abuse filed in Orange and Los Angeles Counties. Additionally, Kim was charged and found guilty of the same crime five years prior to her arrest.

Kim took on multiple aliases to lure her victims, such as Sunny Jean Kim, Jean Kim, Jiin and Ashley Kim. She also used the site KoreanCupid.com to find potential victims.

Kim usually left that same day after practically emptying their homes of their personal items.

Anyone who believes they may be a victim of Kim’s or who has additional information on this case can reach out to Detective Frank Rivas at frank.rivas@mountainview.gov.
