Modesto PD officer seriously injured during vehicle pursuit

MODESTO // 25-year-old Nazario Castillo of Modesto is in hot water after broadsiding a Modesto PD patrol car and leaving an officer seriously injured during a vehicle pursuit through the city.
Early this morning, January 16th, Modesto PD officers received word from dispatch that CHP units were in pursuit of a Toyota Tundra near the airport. One Modesto PD officer who responded to assist was traveling westbound on Yosemite when Castillo, heading northbound on Santa Ana, ran a stop sign and broadsided his car.
The officer was quickly transported to a local hospital, where is reportedly in serious but stable condition.
The CHP has opened a formal criminal investigation into the pursuit, as well as Nazario, who is suspected of having been under the influence at the time.
