SALINAS – A father and his son had already plead guilty to four felony counts for their part in an $400,000 insurance fraud case. Last week they received their sentences for the crime.

61-year-old Jaime Rosario Del Real and 37-year-old Israel Del Real are to serve 250 days in jail, be under felony probation for 10 years and pay $382,951 in restitution.

Through their companies, Del Real Produce and Packing, and Del Real Packing, LLC, the duo provided laborers for lettuce growers, not only in Monterey County but also in Yuma, Arizona.  Part of their ruse included a refusal to pay for medical treatment for the contracted workers.

During the course of five years, “the Del Reals lied more than 20 times in order to obtain reduced insurance premiums.”
