VALLEY SPRINGS // The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office is on the lookout for a suspect who led deputies on a vehicle pursuit following a traffic stop on December 1st.

At around 11:30 PM, a patrol deputy conducted an enforcement stop on a BMW sedan, which was not registered and the DMV lists as non-operational. After leading police through Paloma and eastbound on Highway 26, the suspect’s vehicle was incapacitated after CHP deployed spike strips across the road.

The suspect’s tires reportedly began sparking from the rims striking the pavement as the vehicle continued eastbound on Highway 26, eventually getting stopped by the CHP near the river canyon. The driver, identified only as male, sprang from the car and fled on foot, running off the road and into the foliage.

Police brought in an Amador County K-9 officer for assistance, but the suspect was not located. The investigation is ongoing as police work to determine his identity.
