MODESTO — The Property Crimes Unit of Modesto PD has made an arrest in connection to an attempted residential burglary.

On July 23rd, a city resident was notified by the alarm company that his home system had detected a possible intrusion. Armed with video surveillance footage, the victim contacted police.

It was determined that the suspects had stolen packages from the front porch and had kicked in the front door in an attempted to gain entry. Though the front door was damaged, the alarm seemed to have scared them off.

The surveillance images were distributed among local law enforcement and, as luck would have it, an officer with Modesto PD recognized him as a juvenile he’d spoken with recently. One of the detectives recognized him as well, and was even able to identify a second suspect.

At 8:30 AM on August 2nd, 35-year-old Darvel Blackwell, arrived at the Stanislaus County Probation Office to check in and was promptly arrested for “attempted burglary, conspiracy, and parole violation.”

The second suspect is currently at large, though his information has not been released due to his age.
