“Grinch” Arrested 6 Days Before Christmas at McDonald’s

Gienty acted up at this McDonald’s

NOVATO – A self-appointed “Grinch” was arrested for allegedly throwing a Christmas tree and making racist comments about Mexicans at McDonald’s on Monday morning.

The suspect purportedly abused restaurant employees working the breakfast shift at 7340 Redwood Boulevard, a short distance behind the Novato Police Department headquarters.

Police said the incident began when he took off his shoes and sat on a trash bin, prompting restaurant employees to ask him to leave. The situation escalated quickly and officers responded to a call for help.

The suspect is accused of throwing a Christmas tree situated near the front counter; before he began making disparaging remarks about people of Mexican heritage, stating that they should go back to Mexico, police said.

Charged with disturbing the peace, 52-year-old Craig S. Gienty of Novato was booked at Marin County Jail on December 19 at 6:23 a.m., where he’s being held for $837 bail. He’s scheduled to be arraigned after Christmas at Marin Superior Court, represented by a public defender.

No injuries were reported.
