Salinas Party Ends with One Dead

SALINAS — Police are investigating the city’s 8th homicide of the year, this time involving a 21-year-old victim shot multiple times at a party in the 1100 block of Ranchero Drive.

At about 3:50 AM, a shooting was reported in the area of Ranchero Drive. The caller said the shooting had taken place about 30 minutes prior and that the victim was dead in the living room of the house.

Responding officers found 21-year-old Ruben Estrada on the floor of the now-empty house, dead from multiple gunshot wounds.

An investigation revealed that, during a party at the house, an altercation arose between and unknown suspect and Estrada that resulted in Estrada being shot. There’d been no phone call to authorities until the one made approximately 30 minutes later.

Nobody else was at the residence when police arrived, even though many had attended the party.

Estrada’s death marks the city’s 8th homicide this year and the motive is yet unknown. Estrada is not a known gang member.
