Deputies Hunt for Attempted Murder Suspect

Richard Anthony Rodriguez

The San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s Office is searching for a man suspected of attempted murder.

According to the sheriff’s office, they are looking for Richard Anthony Rodriguez, 30, of Nipomo.
Rodriguez was identified as a suspect who pulled up in his car alongside another car with three female occupants inside. Rodriguez then fired off one shot at the women in the car. No one was hurt.

Rodriguez was last seen headed southbound on Hwy 101 toward Santa Maria. However, Rodriguez’ car was recently seen at the Motel 6 in Paso Robles, located at 1100 block of Black Oak Drive.

Witnesses also placed Rodriguez at the motel in one of the rooms. The Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Detail (SED) team set up a perimeter around the motel and evacuated the occupants of the surrounding rooms.

Detectives tried repeatedly to contact Rodriguez, but the suspect did not respond. The SED team breached the door to the suspect’s room. The team used a motorized robot to search the room and the adjoining bathroom. The suspect was not located.

Investigators believe the suspect left that location prior to their arrival on scene. The Sheriff’s Office is continuing to follow up on tips and leads about the suspect’s whereabouts and believe Rodriguez is still in SLO County.

Rodriguez is described as a Hispanic male, 5′ 9″ tall and weighing 205 pounds. He has brown eyes and black hair.

The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information to contact them at 781-4550.
