Suspect in Murder-for-hire Scheme Arrested

Anthony Gene Stevens

The San Luis Obispo Police Department arrested a man on Tuesday for allegedly trying to hire a hitman.

According to SLOPD, they were notified that Anthony Gene Stevens, 52, of Los Osos was actively looking for someone to murder a business associate due to an ongoing feud between the two men.

The prospective victim, whose name was not disclosed, is a 30-year-old male from San Luis Obispo.

The department’s Special Enforcement Team put in play an undercover detective to setup a meeting with the suspect in a public parking lot in Arroyo Grande.

SLOPD received assistance from the SLO Sheriff’s Office, the California Highway Patrol and Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms for the operation.

According to SLOPD investigators, Stevens provided them with detailed information about the victim including his name, pictures and his home address.

After Stevens and the undercover agreed on a price, Stevens left the meeting and returned later with the cash payment.

When Stevens returned he was arrested at the scene without incident, and transported and booked into the SLO County Jail on a charge of solicitation to commit murder.
