ROLANDO PARK- A suspect in the November 6 machete murder of a San Diego resident was arrested in Phoenix on Thursday, November 12.

San Diego police said Vincent Garza Salas, 22, was arrested in Phoenix at 3:30 p.m. on November 12 by U.S. Marshals from the West Valley Violent Offender Task Force. Salas will be transported back to San Diego and booked in County Jail. He is a suspect in the murder of Vincente Carrera, 43.

San Diego police received a 911 call on November 6 reporting an injured person at a residence in the 6800 block of Waite Drive in the Rolando Park section of San Diego. When police arrived, they found Carrera’s body in an enclosed patio area in back of the home with “major trauma to his upper body as a result of being attacked with a machete.” Carrera did not live at the residence but was described as “a frequent guest.”

San Diego police homicide detectives launched an investigation into the murder and a warrant for the arrest of Salas was issued in San Diego Superior Court on November 10. No motive for the attack has been released.
