School Janitor Suspected of Selling Drugs on Campus

VISALIA – Thanks to a tip from a student, a custodian at a charter high school was arrested for allegedly possessing illegal drugs for sale.

Police arrested 22-year-old Christopher Dean McGowen on Friday after receiving information from Visalia Unified School District that he may have been selling marijuana to students.

McGowen has been a janitor at the Visalia Charter Independent Study campus since April 2014. A student noticed something suspicious on social media and reported the janitor. Police served a search warrant at McGowen’s home in the 1600 block of South West Street in Visalia.

Police found concentrated marijuana in the form of honey oil inside the garage, as well as Ecstasy, psychedelic mushrooms, LSD, digital scales, packaging materials, and counterfeit money.

McGowen was booked into the Tulare County jail for possession of illegal drugs for sale, manufacturing concentrated cannabis and possession of counterfeit currency.

Police do not know if McGowen sold drugs to students.
