Suspect Arrested After Crashing Into Gas Station and Firing Gun

FRESNO – Police arrested a man who they say crashed into a gas station and then began shooting at people on Saturday.

Police said that 25-year-old John Campbell ran into the gas pumps at a Shell Station at Fresno Street and Clinton Avenue around 6 p.m. on Saturday. He then began firing his gun several times before driving away

KFSN News reported that the incident that spurred him on was a domestic dispute during which another party tried to intervene. Campbell chased the stranger down in his truck, all the way into the gas station, when he collided with the pumps and began shooting.

Campbell’s vehicle was later found at First Street and University Avenue. Police learned that Campbell may have been headed to an apartment in Mayfair District, so they surrounded the building with the help of a police dog and air patrol support, authorities said.

Campbell came out from the backyard and was arrested. Police found a loaded .40 caliber firearm in the backyard.

No one was injured when Campbell fired his gun at the gas station, but stray bullets hit several vehicles.

Campbell was booked into Fresno County Jail on charges including attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.
