Suspect Arrested in Connection to Deadly Stabbing in Fresno

FRESNO – A 21-year-old was arrested in connection to the weekend stabbing death of a 19-year-old man that happened during a birthday party in Fresno.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office believes that Anthony Lopez is responsible for the death of Desmond Rios. Lopez was arrested on Tuesday and was booked into the Fresno County Jail on murder charges.

The stabbing happened during a birthday party for an 18-year-old female at a residence located near the intersection of Central and Fowler on Saturday night. After an announcement about the party was put out on social media, between 60 and 200 people showed up, authorities said.

At some point during the party, a physical disturbance broke out between several individuals, during which Rios and another individual were stabbed.

Rios was transported by a friend to Community Regional Medical Center where he later died as a result of his multiple stab wounds.

Friends also attempted to transport the second stabbing victim to the hospital. When they got to Freeway 180, they approached a CHP officer who was on a vehicle stop and told him that their friend had been stabbed. Emergency medical personnel responded and transported the victim to the hospital, where he was treated and later released.

Detectives later discovered that a third victim had been stabbed during the party, but did not seek medical attention.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact Detective Jeff Stricker at 600-281-9412, the Sheriff’s Office at 600-3111 or CrimeStoppers at 498-STOP.
