Suspects Still Sought In Brutal Robbery

Victim was beaten with a Baseball Bat

WATSONVILLE—The Watsonville Police Department is still looking for two suspects that assaulted a clerk at a local market with a baseball bat in an attempted robbery.

On Sunday, September 7, at 9:31 p.m. police were summoned to the La Tiendita Market on Rodriguez Street in Watsonville. Upon their arrival police found that two unknown suspects with a baseball bat had beaten the clerk.

During an on scene investigation, officers learned that two Hispanic males had entered the store. One of them pulled a concealed bat from his waistband and attacked the clerk several times. The second suspect bolted directly for the cash register and took and undisclosed amount of cash, and then both suspects fled the store.

Suspect number one was described as a Hispanic male with a thin build, approximately 5-foot-4, and approximately 18-years-old. Suspect number two was described as a Hispanic male thin build approximately 5-foot-6 and 20 years of age.

“The clerk did suffer several contusions to the head and was treated at the scene.” Watsonville Police Sergeant Anthony Magdayao said in a press release, “He was later transported to a bay area trauma center for further medical treatment of his injuries.”  At the time of this information release, his status was unknown.

The Watsonville Police Department conducted and extensive search for the suspects but they were not located. Officers did collect evidence at the scene and have interviewed witnesses and are following up on leads.  This is an ongoing investigation and the Watsonville Police is asking for the public’s help in finding the suspects. They have released surveillance footage of the brutal attack.
