5 Struck in San Bernardino Shooting, 2 Critical

HIGHLAND – Four black women and a black man were shot early Tuesday morning, but San Bernardino County Sheriff’s investigators have yet to list a motive or detain any suspects.

Two of the five people struck were listed in critical condition, according to law enforcement reports. One suspect is being sought.

At 12:03 a.m., Highland deputies responded to a report that shots were fired at an apartment complex on 5th Street. When they arrived at 25180 5th St., deputies discovered five people suffering from gunshot wounds.
Deputies had determined the five people were inside a garage at the apartment complex when an unknown black male approached, opening fire on the victims. It is unknown if the crime was gang related, according to investigators.

Medical personnel took all five victims to Loma Linda University Medical Center, located in a neighboring city, for treatment. Detectives did not disclose the identities of the victims, listing victim No. 1 as a black female, 23, of Highland, who was listed in stable condition. Victims No. 2 and No. 5, both black females, ages 21 and 24, were also listed in stable condition.

Victim No. 2 is from neighboring San Bernardino and Victim No. 5 is from Highland. The other victim, No. 3, an 18-year-old black female from Highland, was listed in critical condition.
A black male, 21, from Highland, was listed in moderate to critical condition. Investigators did not have any further description of the unidentified suspect. The investigation is in the early stages.
