One Person, Multiple Identities

There have been multiple identity thefts in the past month by an L.A. woman, but multiple may be an understatement.

According to the report, there has reportedly been an outrageous number of people from the cities of Azusa, Baldwin Park, Covina, Diamond Bar, El Monte, Glendora, La Puente, La Verne, Monrovia, Pasadena, Pomona, San Dimas, Santa Ana, Santa Clara, Temple City, West Covina, and Yorba Linda that have been the victims of identity theft. The one person responsible for all of these incidents was identified as Desiree Gurba, an East Los Angeles gang member. On July 21, she was located by the San Gabriel Valley East AB109 Task Force after they set up a surveillance camera on the her apartment building. She was aware that she was being hunted down, and hid in the apartment complex located at 275 W. Philips Boulevard, in Pomona. She was arrested in the bedroom of the apartment, where she was hiding.

The task force had previously received information that Gurba was involved in identity theft, counterfeiting money, sales of methamphetamine and the smuggling of narcotics into the jail system. Gurba’s past includes an arrest in January of 2013 for using fraudulent gift cards at Walmart, along with three others.

There have only been 14 of her victims of identified so far. Detectives are searching for the potential 30 other victims that had been targeted in the same situation. The US Secret Service has been called upon to investigate due to the nature of the crime and thefts of government identity cards.
