Police Seize Large Cache of Firearms and Ammunition

DELANO —  Deputies from the Kern County Sheriff’s Office seized a large cache of firearms and ammunition at a residence in Delano on Sunday afternoon. As a result three men, 52-year-old Albert Garza, 50 year-old Roger Calvalho and 51- year-old convicted felon Darien Wankum were taken into custody.

According to officials, the three were arrested March 9, at around 1 p.m., after deputies discovered eleven unlawfully possessed firearms and a cache of ammunition at a Wankum’s home in the 10000 block of Casey Avenue in Delano.

It was while searching the residence that deputies said they also made contact with Garza, who was found to have a warrant for his arrest, and Calvalho who was in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Garza and Calvalho were issued citations, while Wankum was booked into the Kern County Jail on charges of felon in possession of a firearm and felon in possession of ammunition.

The search was conducted by deputies to investigate complaints of repeated illegal shooting occurrences in the area of Casey Avenue and County Line Road in Delano.
