Attempted escapee uses fire extinguisher on jail officers

A Solano County Jail inmate got ahold of a fire extinguisher Monday and discharged it into three sheriff’s deputies’ faces, according to media reports.

Joseph Schabert, 24, momentarily got out of his holding cell and was cornered by the three officers. That’s when the suspect, who was handcuffed, grabbed the nearby extinguisher and let loose on the deputies, according to reports. The officers subdued Schabert with a stun-gun and returned him to a holding cell.

Schabert had been arrested last Wednesday for failure to appear in court on a drug case. The deputies were treated at a nearby hospital for exposure to chemicals.
