FRESNO – By the early morning hours of Jan. 1, 2014, Fresno had already suffered its first homicide of the year in the form of a stabbing death.

The Fresno Police Department arrested 23-year-old Jessica Wills for allegedly murdering one of her friends during a New Year’s Eve celebration.

The victim, who has not been identified, was a 31-year-old man from Anaheim who was in town to bring in the New Year with his friends, including Wills. The celebration between the group of friends began elsewhere, but ended up at the Villa Del Sol Apartment Complex in the 5900 block of Shields Avenue.

Police say that the group had been drinking heavily and the victim may have been fighting with his girlfriend and getting physical with her. At some point, Wills allegedly stabbed the victim in the chest. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
