Knockout Is No ‘Game’

SAN DIEGO – In various cities across the country – New York, Pittsburg, and now San Diego – random people are slugged sucker-punch style, sometimes into unconsciousness, by total strangers. One such incident in New Jersey resulted in the death of the victim.

Corner of 2nd and Ash Streets

It is erroneously called “the knockout game,” is not child’s play and apparently has now occurred in San Diego at the corner of Second Avenue and Ash street. A man, on his way back to work after a lunch break, stood at the corner waiting to cross. Another man stood next to him and, when the light changed, punched the victim without warning.

The victim’s wife reported that “they weren’t talking to each other, they were just standing next to each other…and he just hit him as hard as he could.”

The puncher, who was cited and released, later remarked (according to the victim’s wife), “I didn’t mean anything by it.”
