Craigslist sale helps nab thief

Vallejo – A burglar has learned that fencing his stolen loot on-line is the best way to get away with his crime. On December 8, Vallejo Police arrested Austin Headley, a 20 year old Vallejo resident. Headley was in possession of stolen camera equipment and had listed it for sale on craigslist.org, an online classified ad service. Earlier that week a burglary in the 100 block of B Street had been reported, resulting in the theft of the valuable camera equipment, and the victim soon found that the same equipment was listed for sale on craigslist.org.

Austin Headley thought he had made a sale when police showed up at his home to respond to his ad on craigslist

According to a Vallejo Police press release, in an undercover operation Vallejo Detectives and Patrol Officers got information from, and eventually obtained Headley’s location. In conjunction with surveillance techniques, uniformed officers contacted the suspect and then took him into custody. The stolen camera and other equipment was recovered, processed and then returned to the burglary victim.

Anyone with additional information about this case is requested to contact Sergeant Joe Iacono at 707-648-4496.
