Dinuba man arrested in party shooting

CUTLER – The Tulare County Sheriff’s Department has arrested a suspect in the killing of a man Saturday night in Cutler.

Deputies arrested Bolivar Ambriz of Dinuba on Sept. 18 for shooting and killing one man and shooting at two other men during the weekend party at the Cutler Latin America Club on Avenue 408.

Deputies said that Ambriz, who was a guest at the large party, got into an argument with 22-year-old Robert John Hernandez. During the argument, Ambriz reportedly shot Hernandez, who died on the scene. He then shot at Noel Espinoza, 21, several times.

An armed security guard, identified as Jose Villegas, 41, confronted Ambriz and the two exchanged gunfire, officials said. Both men were shot, but Ambriz managed to flee. He was then pursued and captured by another security guard a short distance from the party and detained until deputies arrived.

“The secondary officer did not get injured,” said sheriff’s spokesperson Chris Douglass.

Espinoza, Villegas and Ambriz were all taken to area hospitals and are in stable condition, the sheriff’s department said.

Certain details about the case are not being released for investigative purposes.

Anyone with more information about the incident is asked to call the sheriff’s department at (559) 735-1898 or (800) 808-0488.
