SACRAMENTO — A suspect in the New Year’s Day murder of 20-year-old Kyle Smith was arrested Saturday.
According to Laura Peck, of the Sacramento Police Department’s media relations office, homicide detectives arrested 18-year-old Nicholas Moreno, of Sacramento, and charged with Smith’s murder.
“On the morning of Jan. 1, our officers responded to a reported shooting at the 400 block of Camellia River Way,” Peck said. When officers arrived, they had found Smith suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the crime scene.”
According to police reports, detectives and a crime scene investigation unit were called in. The following investigation revealed that, during a New Year’s Eve party, an argument between party goers had occurred. The argument escalated into a physical fight, during which Moreno allegedly drew a gun and shot Smith.
Sacramento County Main Jail records show that Moreno is also known as Nick Vuittonet and “Baby Dopey.” He is being held without bail and will appear in court on Tuesday.
“The investigation is still on-going,” Peck said. She stated that if anyone has any information regarding the murder, they are urged to contact the Sacramento Police Department.
