Sometimes it is difficult to tell the difference between the sound of gunshots and the sound of fireworks going off.

Such was the case in San Luis Obispo from October of 2019 until March of 2020. All eight reports came from around the 200 and 300 blocks of Elks Lane.

One incident involved gunshots into an empty trailer. Another incident, on March 19 2020, saw a single gunshot into an occupied residence.

More recently, seven more incidents of gunshots or fireworks occurred between March 19 and July 15 this year.

In one of the recent incidents, investigators found a single gunshot into a large water pipe.

Investigators came upon 59-year-old Guy Wicks in the creek near Elks Lane and discovered evidence linking him to the shootings. – namely, an AR-15 hidden nearby.

After his arrest Wicks was charged with possession of an assault weapon, possession of a high capacity magazine, a felon possessing ammunition, and a felon possessing a firearm.
