HALF MOON BAY – In 2018 a 14-year-old girl was walking on the trail by the harbor at Half Moon Bay, during which time a man sexually attacked her.

The suspect “forcefully tried to engage in sexual acts” with the girl, who did not know the suspect. Thankfully she was able to escape and then reported to law enforcement what had happened.

The victim’s observational skills helped provide “an excellent description of the suspect.” However his identity remained unknown.

Later, the victim saw a mugshot from a report about a sexual assault arrest, also in Half Moon Bay. She recognized the man arrested in that incident as her attacker – 22-year-old Matthew Hann.

Hann was arrested for 289(A)(1)(B) – Sexual Penetration on a Person Under 14 Using Violence/Duress and
220(A)(2) – Any Person who Assaults Another Person Under 18 Years of Age with the Intent to Commit Rape / Sodomy / Oral Copulation.
