Illegal pot grow raided by Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department

MORGAN HILL – The SCCSD has successfully shut down an illegal pot growing operation in the outskirts of Morgan Hill. This effectively resulted in the closure of an extensive operation.    According to the Sheriff’s Department, the Sheriff’s Marijuana Eradication Team arrived at the property of a resident mid-block on Dougherty Avenue between Miramonte and Live Oak.

Authorities arrested more than 12 people in association with the growing facility. Four of those suspects were arrested on October 10 when the Marijuana Eradication Team launched flash bombs into the facility causing the suspects to exit quickly. Deputies at the scene also located loaded handguns and ammunition from inside the facility.

Furthermore, in total, Santa Clara County Sgt. Richard Glennon said, “The Marijuana Eradication Team has conducted 33 operations. This resulted in the seizure of –

  • 57, 532 plants;
  • 1,835 pounds of dry marijuana;
  • 868 grams of butane honey oil;
  • and 45 firearms.”

In the Morgan Hill operation, according to Glennon, “Deputies removed an estimated 2,400 plants and 500 pounds of dry marijuana from greenhouses on the property. The sheriff’s office also seized 21 firearms, including two assault rifles.”
