Detectives investigating early-morning assault that left 1 dead

TURLOCK — On August 1st at around 4 AM, deputies and EMS personnel arrived on the 100 block of West F Street to find two assault victims in front of a house.

One of them,  29-year-old Gregory Mendoza, was unresponsive. Although EMS personnel attempted medical care, Gregory was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim, a 25-year-old man who has not been identified by name, was treated at the hospital and released.

The investigation is ongoing as detectives work to piece together the sequence of events, seek out potential witnesses, and identify a suspect.
