Man Reports for Hit and Run Charge

HEMET — A collision occurred on Tuesday, March 7th, in which an SUV ran a light light near Florida Avenue and Mayflower Street, striking and killing 66-year-old pedestrian Daniel Silva.

The driver of the SUV did not stop.  Then, on Friday, March 10th, police received an anonymous tip about a vehicle possibly suspected in the accident.

Investigators located an SUV that matched the description of the suspect vehicle, had damage consistent with with a collision and was covered up with a car cover. They impounded the SUV as evidence.

Two hours later, 42-year-old Montez Landing turned himself in to the HPD and was cooperative.  He was charged with one felony count of hit and that caused death.  He posted bail and was released.

The Hemet Police Department released this statement: “The Hemet Police Department would like to thank the community for the flood of leads in this case, which have been pouring in on a daily basis. We would especially like to thank the anonymous tipster for providing the location of the suspect vehicle which ultimately led to Mr. Landing’s arrest.”
