Car Burglarized While Owner Mails Package; Then He’s Arrested For Dealing Pot

VACAVILLE – Two Grass Valley residents were arrested December 3rd at the Vacaville Post Office after marijuana they had packaged to sell commercially was stolen from their vehicle.

The unexpected turn of events ensued when several witnesses called Vacaville Police 911 dispatchers and reported a car burglary in progress in the Post Office parking lot. A Hispanic male in his 20’s reportedly broke the rear window of a Toyota 4Runner. He reached in, pulled out two duffle bags, ran to a getaway vehicle in escape.

Witnesses gave chase, but the thieves eluded them.

While the suspect broke out the 4Runner’s window, Michelle Appleby, 33, of Grass Valley was sitting in its passenger seat. She did not call police, however.

Upon arriving at the scene in response to the Good Samaritans’ 911 calls, Vacaville police learned Appleby was waiting for the other Grass Valley resident, Jeremy Spiva, 39, to mail a package. Upon his return, Spiva also neglected to call authorities.

Police learned that the duffle bags contained six pounds of marijuana Spiva and Appleby had been attempting to sell at several northern California dispensaries.

Investigators inferred that Spiva and Appleby were followed from one of the dispensaries to the Vacaville Post Office by the suspected car burglars.

When Spiva left Appleby to mail his package, the burglars struck.

Spiva’s package turned out to contain two pounds of pot and was en route to a Louisiana address.

No further arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to call Vacaville police at (707) 449-5200.
