Couple enjoys a vacation rental – for a while

Tucker Ray Chester and Jenifer Rae Borges of Fort Bragg were down south a few miles in Mendocino enjoying a vacation rental home just a short walk from the beautiful rocky shores of the coast and the iconic Point Cabrillo Lighthouse and State Historic Park. A nice arrangement for a couple wanting to get a away for a while. One problem presented itself, however. They had not actually rented the home.

According to the Mendocino Sheriff’s Department, an agent from the Shoreline Properties vacation rental company reported that someone unknown was occupying a property of theirs on Verde Drive, just north of the town of Mendocino. On Tuesday, August 26, deputies were sent to the location at 9:45 in the morning. They found 31-year-old Chester, and 44-year-old Borges there at the home.

The couple claimed they had permission to be staying there, and to use the utilities while enjoying the location. They had moved in the day before. The deputies, after identifying the pair, found that Chester was on active probation for burglary. Borges was on summary probation for a past charge of possession of a controlled substance.

Records show that Tucker Chester was also arrested several other times in the past. In 2009 he was picked up for possession of narcotics. In January of 2013 he was reported to have accidentally called 9-1-1, and then when deputies arrived to investigate the call, he returned to the location in Fort Bragg, and was found to be on probation for the earlier offense, and in possession of both methamphetamine and concentrated cannabis, along with a glass pipe. He also had a suspended drivers license.

In April of last year, Chester was arrested for battery on a spouse or co-habitant. Since then he has been arrested several times on probation violations and disobeying the domestic violence court order.

The deputies confirmed with representatives for Shoreline Properties that Chester and Borges did not have permission to be there. They found that Chester was also in possession of rubber gloves and burglary tools.

They were both arrested and booked at the Mendocino County Jail. Chester was charged with burglary, possession of burglary tools, and probation violations. He is being held in a no-bail status. Borges was booked on burglary and probation violations. Her bail was set at $55,000.
