Fresno PD: Brandishing suspect recovering after officer-involved shooting

Fresno police have announced the identification of a suspect in a recent officer-involved shooting.

26-year-old Ryan Brooks was identified as the subject in question involved in an armed disturbance Fort Washington Fitness in Fresno on December 22, 2021, in which he allegedly brandished a gun while sitting in his car and claiming he was going to “start shooting,” according to police.

Responding officers pulled over a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle after seeing it being driven erratically in the dirt parking lot near the fitness center. The subject, later identified as Brooks, then got out of the car, began advancing on officers, and allegedly drew what appeared to be a handgun from his pocket. Both present officers fired their weapons, striking Brooks.

At that point, officers rendered medical aid and had Brooks transported to a nearby trauma center for recovery. He was cited on misdemeanor charges related to the incident. The investigation remains active and no further information is available, police said.
