A suspect is dead after being fatally shot by police following a pursuit and exchange of gunfire with officers, according to Bakersfield PD.

In the early morning hours of Saturday, August 7, officers responded to a reported disturbance regarding an allegedly armed man on the 2300 block of Brazil Avenue. While en route, officers learned that shots had been fired — although no one was hit — and that the man had fled the area in a green Chevrolet pickup truck.

Less than an hour later, officers learned that someone in a green Chevy truck had allegedly shot at a security guard at a construction site northwest of Panama Lane and Buena Vista Road. Again, nobody was injured.

Shortly after that, the same subject had arrived at a family member’s home on Blossom Valley Lane. Responding officers located and pursued the suspect in the green Chevrolet until the driver lost control of the truck and collided with a barrier wall just south of Harris and Stine Roads. The suspect then got out and exchanged gunfire with officers before jumping over the wall and into the backyard of a neighboring residence, police said.

Officers began receiving reports that the subject was running through backyards on Autumn Crest Drive, and that they had discarded a handgun they’d been carrying but were still armed with another gun. Officers soon found the subject hiding in a trash can. Another shooting reportedly took place, this time with officers fatally shooting the suspect. The subject was pronounced dead at the scene. No weapon was found in their possession, police said.
